Stories of Healing
Rock Recovery supplements the work of therapists and treatment centers by helping individuals find lasting freedom from disordered eating while living full lives. We provide holistic, affordable recovery programs that include group meals, nutrition counseling, mentorship, faith-based recovery, and therapy groups and more. Below are a few amazing stories of healing from alumni who have found freedom through Rock’s programs.
Stories of Healing: Jesus
Jesus had always been a confident person, comfortable with his self-esteem and body image - so why was eating such a chore? Eating food made Jesus feel disgusted, and he had no idea why. It wasn’t until he learned about ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) that he realized he might have an eating disorder. With the help of Rock Recovery, he learned more about his struggles, and found ways to manage his anxiety surrounding eating.
Stories of Healing: Allison
For over three decades, Allison struggled with her body image and disordered eating. From binging, to purging, to taking diet pills, she tried everything to find that “perfect” image. With the support of her family, Allison found healing and hope through Rock Recovery's individual therapy and faith support programming, leading her to victory over a long, 33-year battle.

Like so many, Laura's eating disorder began with a diet and a desire to be "healthy." What started as a few rules around food quickly spiraled out of her control. After a heartfelt talk with her parents, she realized she had an eating disorder. Through Rock Recovery's individual therapy and faith support programming, Laura embarked on her journey to freedom, and now lives a much happier, healthier lifestyle.
Stories of Healing: Sara
Sara found Rock Recovery after she was diagnosed with anorexia. Feeling alone and craving connection with others, she joined Rock Recovery’s Breaking Bread meal support group, which, in her own words, “turned out to be the best decision ever.” Through Breaking Bread, Sara found community, support, and acceptance from others who know what’s it’s like to navigate eating disorder recovery.

Tegan’s struggle with disordered eating started at age 11, continuing well on into adulthood. But the more she fought for control over her body’s appearance, the more she lost control over her overall health and life. In 2018, Tegan found Rock Recovery and her life was forever changed. In joining Rock’s groups she never felt more seen, heard and accepted.

Liz grew up thinking that diets were the norm because everyone is on some sort of diet, right? Turns out, Liz was wrong! After spending decades with this mentality, she realized it was time to break the cycle. At the age of 33, she began her battle to beat her eating disorder and Rock Recovery’s groups helped her cross the finish line to freedom!

Jenna grew up in a world where diets were a part of her everyday. She struggled with restriction and binging for years without recognizing it as a problem because she thought it was simply what she had to do. Then she found Rock Recovery. The community of women she encountered and the support she received changed her life.

Callie began struggling with an eating disorder in high school and wasn’t sure recovery would ever be possible for her. Then she joined Rock’s Bridge to Life body image therapy group with the help of sliding scale financial assistance and the community of women she encountered changed her life.

Chelsea never thought that deciding to purge just once would be the beginning of a 10-year battle with bulimia. She didn't think that she was sick enough for treatment, and even if she was she had no idea how she would afford it.

Addy never thought that she was someone who struggled with disordered eating. To her, the compulsive exercise and restrictive rules around food were normal. It was in Rock's program that she found the support she needed to take her next step towards freedom.

Christine's eating disorder began when she was just 14 years old. It wasn't until 10 years later that she finally sought treatment. It was in Rock's Breaking Bread program that she finally found a safe place to heal, a place free of judgment.

Daniela came to Rock Recovery as a student pursuing her PhD. Unable to afford costly clinical services in Washington, DC, she sought a community of people to understand and support her as she navigated eating disorder recovery.

After an endless and overwhelming search for affordable treatment, Jessie felt more discouraged than ever. In Fall of 2018, Kelsey suffered a painful relapse with anorexia, which led her to join Rock Recovery’s meal support program. Although Kelsey feared the group setting, what she found was a strong community of women to hold onto her through her pain.

Lizzie came to Rock Recovery after leaving residential treatment for her eating disorder. It was in the Bridge to Life group that she found the community she desperately needed in her recovery journey. Today, Lizzie is living free from her eating disorder and has built a life that she loves.
